It covers total area of 720.98 mi˛ (1867.33 square kilometre), of which, 708.04 square miles (1833.82 square kilometre) of it is land and 12.94 square miles (33.51 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 44th largest in terms of geographical size.

In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 27.1% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 105.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 62971, The racial makeup of the county was 59870 White, 1612 Black or African American, 395 American Indian, 214 Asian, 45 Native Hawaiian, and 835 from two or more races.
