Monroe County is a United States county located in the United States of Tennessee. The population of county in 2000 stood at 38961 as per the Census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 45648, It is 33rd most populous county in Tennessee. Its area is just over 652.58 square miles (1690.17 kmē), of which, 634.91 square miles (1644.41 kmē) of it is land and 17.67 square miles (45.77 kmē) of it is water, it is the sixth largest by area in the U.S. state of Tennessee.
