Monroe County is a county in the United States of Ohio. The population of county in 2000 stood at 15180 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 14221, It is the second smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Ohio. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 457.46 mi˛ (1184.82 sq km), of which, 455.54 square miles (1179.84 sq km) of it is land and 1.92 square miles (4.97 sq km) of it is water, making it Ohio's 45th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 15180 people, 6021 households, and 4411 families living in the county. The population density was 33.3 people per square mile (12.86/km˛), it is Ohio's second least densely populated county. There were 7212 housing units at an average density of 15.8 per square mile (6.1/km˛). The average household size was 2.5 and the average family size was 2.96. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 23.6% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.1 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 14221, The racial makeup of the county was 14023 White, 42 Black or African American, 28 American Indian, 18 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 109 from two or more races.
