Monroe County is a United States county located in the United States of Indiana. It is home to over 120563 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 128992, It is the 13th most populous county in the U.S. state of Indiana. Its area is just over 411.32 square miles (1065.31 square kilometre), of which, 394.35 square miles (1021.36 square kilometre) of it is land and 16.97 square miles (43.95 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 36th largest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Indiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 120563 residents, 46898 households, and 24737 families in the county. The population density was 305.7 people per square mile (118.03/kmē), it is Indiana's 11th most densely populated county. There were 50846 housing units at an average density of 128.9 per square mile (49.77/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.27 persons, and the average family size was 2.87 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 18% under the age of 18, 27.7% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 17.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 128992, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 116467 White, 4369 Black or African American, 360 American Indian, 5659 Asian, 69 Native Hawaiian, and 2068 from two or more races.
