Monroe County, Illinois is a county of the United States of Illinois. It is home to over 27619 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 32804, making it Illinois's 46th largest county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 397.71 mi˛ (1030.06 square kilometre), of which, 388.29 square miles (1005.67 square kilometre) of it is land and 9.42 square miles (24.4 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 28th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois.

Age range in the county was well distributed with 26.4% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.6 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 32804, The racial makeup of the county was 32166 White, 289 Black or African American, 56 American Indian, 120 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 170 from two or more races.
