Monroe City is a one of the Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, located in Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 53107. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 51215, It is the ninth largest in terms of population. The city comprises an area of 32.38 square miles (83.86 kmē), of which, 28.68 square miles (74.28 kmē) of it is land and 3.71 square miles (9.61 kmē) of it is water, giving it the eighth largest by total area among Louisiana. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in Louisiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 53107 people in the city, organized into 400 households, and 290 families living in the city. The population density was 1851.8 people per square mile (714.98/kmē), it is 70th most densely populated city in Louisiana. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 29.7% under the age of 18, 15% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 17.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who were 65 or older.
