Mono County, California is a county of the United States of California. As of 2000 the population was 12853. In July 2008, its estimated population was 12774, giving it the fourth smallest population among California's county. It covers total area of 3131.8 sq mi (8111.32 sq km), of which, 3044.4 square miles (7884.96 sq km) of it is land and 87.4 square miles (226.36 sq km) of it is water, it is the 20th largest by area in the U.S. state of California.

As of the census of 2000, there were 12853 people, 5137 households, and 3145 families living in the county. The population density was 4.2 people per square mile (1.62/kmē), it is California's sixth least densely populated county. There were 11757 housing units at an average density of 3.9 per square mile (1.51/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.43 persons, and the average family size was 2.98 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 23% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 33.4% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 7.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 121.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 126.8 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 12774, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 11847 White, 129 Black or African American, 370 American Indian, 181 Asian, 18 Native Hawaiian, and 229 from two or more races.
