Mobile County is a United States county located in the United States of Alabama. In 2000, the population was 399843. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 406309, It is the second most populous county in the U.S. state of Alabama. The county spans an area of 1644.02 square miles (4257.99 square kilometre), of which, 1233.09 square miles (3193.69 square kilometre) of it is land and 410.93 square miles (1064.3 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the second largest by size in Alabama. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Alabama.

The population density was 324.3 people per square mile (125.21/kmē), it is third most densely populated county in Alabama. There were 165101 housing units at an average density of 133.9 per square mile (51.7/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.61 persons, and the average family size was 3.13 persons. In the county Age distribution was 27.5% under the age of 18, 10% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 12% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 109.3 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 114.8 females. Its population was estimated at 406309 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 251507 White, 139783 Black or African American, 2743 American Indian, 7391 Asian, 174 Native Hawaiian, and 4711 from two or more races.
