Mitchell City is a city located in the Davison County, South Dakota, United States. In 2000, city's population was 14558 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 14752, It is the sixth largest in terms of population. The city extends throughout a territory of 10.87 square miles (28.15 kmē ), of which, 9.87 square miles (25.56 kmē) of it is land and 1.01 square miles (2.62 kmē) of it is water, it is the 13th largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in South Dakota.

The median age was 35.7 years, the median age of male residents at 32.5 and the median age of female residents at 38.6. The racial makeup of the city was 95.63% White, 0.32% Black or African American, 2.4% American Indian, 0.45% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, 0.87% from two or more races and 0.29% Other races.
