Missouri is a state of the United States. As of 2000 the population was 5595211. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 5911605, It is the 17th largest in terms of population. It has total area of 69704.31 sq mi (180533.33 sq km), of which, 68885.93 square miles (178413.74 sq km) of it is land and 818.39 square miles (2119.62 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 21st largest by total area in United States.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5595211 people in the state, organized into 2194594 households, and 1476516 families living in the state. The population density was 81.2 people per square mile (31.35/kmē), it is 27th most densely populated state in United States. There were 2442017 housing units at an average density of 35.5 per square mile (13.71/kmē). The average household size was 2.48 people, and the average family size was 3.02 people. Age range in the state was well distributed with 25.5% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.3 males. The median age of the state's population was 36.1 years, The median age of males was 34.8 years, for females the median age was 37.4 years. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the state is 5595211, The racial makeup of the state was 4748083 White, 629391 Black or African American, 25076 American Indian, 61595 Asian, 3178 Native Hawaiian, 82061 from two or more races and 45827 Ohter races.
