Mineral County is a county located in Nevada, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 5071 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 4684, It is the fourth smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Nevada. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3812.97 square miles (9875.55 square kilometre), of which, 3756.4 square miles (9729.03 square kilometre) of it is land and 56.56 square miles (146.49 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 12th largest by area in the U.S. state of Nevada. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in Nevada.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5071 people in the county, organized into 2197 households, and 1380 families living in the county. The population density was 1.3 people per square mile (0.5/kmē), it is 11th most densely populated county in Nevada. There were 2866 housing units at an average density of 0.8 per square mile (0.31/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.26 persons, and the average family size was 2.78 persons. In the county Population was distributed with 24.4% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 27.1% from 45 to 64, and 19.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.3 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 4684, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 3459 White, 255 Black or African American, 806 American Indian, 49 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 110 from two or more races.
