Miner County is a county in the United States of South Dakota. In 2000, county's population was 2884 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 2435, It is 12th least populous county in South Dakota. The county spans an area of 571.99 sq mi (1481.45 square kilometre), of which, 570.34 square miles (1477.17 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.65 square miles (4.27 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 12th smallest in terms of geographical size.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 2884 residents, 1212 households, and 789 families in the county. The population density was 5.1 people per square mile (1.97/kmē), it would be the 35th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of South Dakota. There were 1408 housing units at an average density of 2.5 per square mile (0.97/kmē). The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.98. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.5% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 22.7% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 23.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 2435, The racial makeup of the county was 98.56% White, 0.62% Black or African American, 0.41% American Indian, 0.12% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.29% from two or more races.
