Middlesex County is a one of the county from Virginia's 135 counties, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Middlesex County is home to 9932 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 10585, It is the 21st smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Virginia. It covers total area of 210.75 square miles (545.84 square kilometre), of which, 130.3 square miles (337.48 square kilometre) of it is land and 80.46 square miles (208.39 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 44th smallest by size in Virginia. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Virginia.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 9932 people, 4253 households, and 2912 families living in the county. The population density was 76.2 people per square mile (29.42/kmē), giving it the 76th most densely populated county among the Virginia. There were 6362 housing units at an average density of 48.8 per square mile (18.84/kmē). The average household size was 2.27 people, and the average family size was 2.73 people. In the Middlesex County, 19.2% of the population was under the age of 18, 5.1% were 18 to 24, 22.9% were 25 to 44, 30.3% were 45 to 64, and 22.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.5 males.
