Middlesex County, New Jersey is a county of the United States of New Jersey. In 2000, the population was 750162. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 789102, It is second most populous county in New Jersey. The county spans an area of 322.51 sq mi (835.3 square kilometre), of which, 309.72 square miles (802.17 square kilometre) of it is land and 12.79 square miles (33.13 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 13th largest by area in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in New Jersey.

As of the census of 2000, there were 750162 people, 265815 households, and 190930 families living in the county. The population density was 2422.1 people per square mile (935.18/kmē), it is the sixth most populated county in terms of population density. There were 273637 housing units at an average density of 883.5 per square mile (341.12/kmē). The average household size was 2.74 people, and the average family size was 3.23 people. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 23.7% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 32.8% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.5 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 789102, The racial makeup of the county was 68.03% White, 10.87% Black or African American, 0.36% American Indian, 19.16% Asian, 0.09% Native Hawaiian, and 1.49% from two or more races.
