Middlesex County, Connecticut is a county located in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 155071 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 164794, It is Connecticut's sixth most populous county. Its area is just over 439.07 mi˛ (1137.19 sq km), of which, 369.26 square miles (956.38 sq km) of it is land and 69.81 square miles (180.81 sq km) of it is water, it is the second smallest by area in the U.S. state of Connecticut. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in Connecticut.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 155071 people, 61341 households, and 40580 families residing in the county. The population density was 419.9 people per square mile (162.12/km˛), it is the fourth most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Connecticut. There were 67285 housing units at an average density of 182.2 per square mile (70.35/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.43 persons, and the average family size was 2.98 persons. In the Middlesex County, 23.2% of the population was under the age of 18, 7.3% were 18 to 24, 31.1% were 25 to 44, 24.8% were 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.1 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 164794, The racial makeup of the county was 91.43% White, 4.78% Black or African American, 0.22% American Indian, 2.16% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 1.36% from two or more races.
