Middlesex Borough is a borough located in Middlesex County, New Jersey, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 13717. The July 2008 population estimate is 13644, making it the 110th most populous in New Jersey. The borough spans an area of 3.52 sq mi (9.12 sq km), of which, 3.5 square miles (9.06 sq km) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 161st largest by total area among New Jersey.

As of the census of 2000, there were 13717 people in the borough, organized into 457 households, and 284 families residing in the borough. The population density was 3921.1 people per square mile (1513.95/kmē), it is New Jersey's 166th most densely populated borough. There were 5130 housing units at an average density of 1465.7 per square mile (565.91/kmē). The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.17. In the borough Population was distributed with 24.1% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 32.3% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.9 males. The median age was 38 years, the median age of male residents at 36.5 and the median age of female residents at 39.4. The racial or ethnic makeup of the borough was 87.26% White, 3.36% Black or African American, 0.13% American Indian, 4.16% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, 1.86% from two or more races and 3.21% Other races.
