Miami-dade County is a county in the United States of Florida. As of 2000 the population was 2253362. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 2398245, It is most populous county in Florida. It is spread over 2431.26 sq mi (6296.93 sq km), of which, 1946.06 square miles (5040.27 sq km ) of it is land and 485.19 square miles (1256.64 sq km) of it is water, giving it the second largest by total area among Florida's county. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in Florida.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 2253362 residents, 776774 households, and 548493 families in the county. The population density was 1157.9 people per square mile (447.07/kmē), giving it the fourth most densely populated county among the Florida. There were 852278 housing units at an average density of 437.9 per square mile (169.07/kmē). The average household size was 2.84 persons, and the average family size was 3.35 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.8% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 31% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 2398245, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 1855431 White, 468406 Black or African American, 10109 American Indian, 37381 Asian, 2228 Native Hawaiian, and 24690 from two or more races.
