Merritt Island Cdp is a United States census designated place located in the Brevard County, Florida, United States. As of 2000 the population was 36090. It is Florida's 72nd largest by population . Its area is just over 47.05 sq mi (121.86 square kilometre), of which, 17.65 square miles (45.71 square kilometre) of it is land and 29.4 square miles (76.15 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 23rd largest by total area in Florida. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in Florida.
