Mercer County is one of the 67 county of Pennsylvania, located towards the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 120293. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 116652, making it the 30th most populous county in Pennsylvania. It covers total area of 682.57 mi˛ (1767.85 square kilometre), of which, 671.82 square miles (1740.01 square kilometre) of it is land and 10.76 square miles (27.87 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 33rd largest by total area among Pennsylvania's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 120293 people, 46712 households, and 32387 families residing in the county. The population density was 179.1 people per square mile (69.15/km˛), it is 29th most densely populated county in Pennsylvania. There were 49859 housing units at an average density of 74.2 per square mile (28.65/km˛). The average household size was 2.44 persons, and the average family size was 2.96 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 23.4% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 18.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.8 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 116652, The racial makeup of the county was 92.78% White, 5.46% Black or African American, 0.13% American Indian, 0.55% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.06% from two or more races.
