Mercer County is a county in the United States of North Dakota. As of 2000 the population was 8644. The July 2008 population estimate is 7854, It is the 15th largest in terms of population. It covers total area of 1112.42 square miles (2881.15 kmē), of which, 1045.49 square miles (2707.81 kmē) of it is land and 66.93 square miles (173.35 kmē) of it is water, it is the 35th largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in North Dakota.

The population density was 8.3 people per square mile (3.2/kmē), it is North Dakota's 14th most densely populated county. There were 4402 housing units at an average density of 4.2 per square mile (1.62/kmē). The average household size was 2.55 people, and the average family size was 3.05 people. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 29.1% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.9 males. Its population was estimated at 7854 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 7503 White, 12 Black or African American, 217 American Indian, 17 Asian, 29 Native Hawaiian, and 76 from two or more races.
