Mendota City is a one of the La Salle County, Illinois, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 7272. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 6995, It is the 253rd largest in terms of population. The city has a total area of 3.88 mi˛ (10.05 sq km), of which, 3.78 square miles (9.79 sq km) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 sq km) of it is water, it is the 283rd largest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois.

As of the census of 2000, there were 7272 residents, 2748 households, and 1901 families in the city. The population density was 1924.3 people per square mile (742.98/km˛), it is the 348th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Illinois.
