The county has a total area of 3878.14 sq mi (10044.34 kmē), of which, 3508.97 square miles (9088.19 kmē) of it is land and 369.17 square miles (956.15 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 14th largest by total area in California. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in California.
