Memphis City, Tennessee is a city of the Shelby County, Tennessee, United States. Memphis City had an official population of 650100 in 2000. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 669651, It is the largest in terms of population. It covers total area of 294.76 mi˛ (763.42 sq km), of which, 279.32 square miles (723.44 sq km) of it is land and 15.44 square miles (39.99 sq km) of it is water, giving it the second largest by total area among Tennessee. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Tennessee.

The population density was 2327.4 people per square mile (898.61/km˛), making its Tennessee's fourth most densely populated city.
