Melville Town is a town located in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, town has a population of 1376 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 1384, making it Louisiana's 229th largest. The town spans an area of 1.28 sq mi (3.32 square kilometre), of which, 1.25 square miles (3.24 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 73rd smallest by area in the U.S. state of Louisiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1376 people, 400 households, and 290 families residing in the town. The population density was 1097.6 people per square mile (423.79/kmē), making its Louisiana's 131st most densely populated town. There were 648 housing units at an average density of 518.4 per square mile (200.16/kmē). The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.17.
