Melville Cdp is a one of the Newport County, Rhode Island, located in Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. In 2000, census designated place's population was 2325 inhabitants. It is the fifth smallest in terms of population. It covers total area of 5.05 mi˛ (13.08 square kilometre), of which, 2.16 square miles (5.59 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.89 square miles (7.49 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Rhode Island's 18th largest by total area. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in Rhode Island.

The population density was 1076.7 people per square mile (415.72/km˛), it is the sixth least densely populated census designated place in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. In the census designated place the population was distributed as follows: 37.8% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 45.9% from 25 to 44, 5.4% from 45 to 64, and 1.4% who were 65 or older. The median age was 26.5 years, the median age of male residents at 26.6 and the median age of female residents at 26.4.
