Mecklenburg County is a United States county located in the United States of North Carolina. In 2000, the population was 695454. Its population was estimated at 890515 in July 2008, It is North Carolina's most populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 546.22 mi˛ (1414.7 square kilometre), of which, 526.28 square miles (1363.06 square kilometre) of it is land and 19.94 square miles (51.64 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 37th largest by area in the U.S. state of North Carolina.

The population density was 1321.5 people per square mile (510.23/km˛), it is the most populated county in terms of population density. There were 292780 housing units at an average density of 556.3 per square mile (214.79/km˛). The average household size was 2.49 people, and the average family size was 3.06 people. In the Mecklenburg County, 25.1% of the population was under the age of 18, 9.7% were 18 to 24, 36.4% were 25 to 44, 20.3% were 45 to 64, and 8.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.6 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 890515, The racial makeup of the county was 573650 White, 263977 Black or African American, 4785 American Indian, 34615 Asian, 1056 Native Hawaiian, and 12432 from two or more races.
