Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, sometimes translated as Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Map of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germanyis bounded on the north by the Baltic Sea, in the west by Schleswig-Holstein, in the south-west by Lower Saxony, to the south by Brandenburg and to the east by Poland. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the sixth largest federal state of Germany by area, with an area of 23,182 square kilometres (8,950 sq mi). It is fourteenth largest in population among the Germany, with 1.69 million inhabitants.  There are 73 inhabitants living in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern per square kilometre, making it the most sparsely populated German state. It is divided up into 12 districts and 6 independent cities. Its capital is Schwerin.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern PopulationThe population of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is 1,679,682 (2008), of which 846,937 is female and 832,745 is male, total population down 0.83 per cent over a year earlier. This was due to more deaths than births.Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Population Ageing In 2006, the birth rate was 7.4 per 1000 and death rate was 10.2 per 1000 in 2006.  In 2008, 10.59 percent of the population under the age of 15, rose from 10.45 per cent over a previous year. The proportion of people aged 65 and over rose from 20.59 per cent to 21.13 per cent. Correspondingly, the median age (aged 15-64) of the population fell from 68.97 to 68.28 over the same period. The overall dependency ratio is 465 per 1000 in 2008. The Sex ratio of total population is 0.983 male(s)/female.

 

 

 

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the 14th largest in both nominal GDP and GDP (PPP) among the Germany.Mecklenburg-Vorpommern GDP : Services, Industries and Agriculture Its nominal GDP per capita is €19,200, it is lowest economy by nominal GDP per capita in Germany, its GDP purchasing power parity (PPP) per capita is €18,600,  ranked last among the Germany. Total GDP of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is €32.6 billion, of which service sector contributes around 78.47%, industry 19.19%, and agriculture 2.34%. Its real annual growth rate is 1.5 in 2006, rose from negative 0.1 over a previous year. Its income of household was 13,852 Euros per inhabitant in 2006. The unemployment rate has recently decreased from 22.1% in 2004 to 17.4% in 2007.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern EducatiionRegarding to the state road network, in 2008 there were 9,969 km of roadways in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, including 538 km of motorways. In 2007, about 0.9 million passenger cars (equal to 540 cars per 1,000 people) and 1 million road good vehicles circulated on the national road network. The state railway network, in 2008 totalled 1592 km of which 876 km is electrified. The state inland waterways network comprised 907 km of navigable rivers and channells.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern attracts tourists, with around 4 million tourists arrivals in 2008, its nearly 283 nature reserves, 110 landscape reserves, three of Germany's 14 national parks and 2,000 castles, palaces and manor houses, which often function as venues for concerts and festivals. In 2007, 0.3 millions pupils and students, 18% of the total population, are in the education system. Of which, percentage of enrollment student are in, 15% pre-primary, 16% primary, 30%  lower secondary, 23% higher secondary, 4% post secondary and 12% tertiary.
