Meade County is a United States county located in the United States of South Dakota. The population of county in 2000 stood at 24253 as per the Census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 23989, It is the seventh most populous county in the U.S. state of South Dakota. The county has a total area of 3482.46 mi˛ (9019.53 square kilometre), of which, 3470.63 square miles (8988.89 square kilometre) of it is land and 11.82 square miles (30.61 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the largest in terms of geographical size.

In the county the population was spread out, with 28.4% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 21% from 45 to 64, and 10.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 97.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 98.4 females. In July 2008, its estimated population was 23989, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 22305 White, 412 Black or African American, 514 American Indian, 186 Asian, 16 Native Hawaiian, and 556 from two or more races.
