Mckenzie County is a county located in the United States of North Dakota. Mckenzie County had an official population of 5737 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 5674, giving it the 21st largest population among North Dakota's county. The county encompasses an area of 2860.89 sq mi (7409.67 kmē ), of which, 2742.02 square miles (7101.8 kmē) of it is land and 118.87 square miles (307.87 kmē) of it is water, it is the largest by area in the U.S. state of North Dakota. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in North Dakota.

The population density was 2.1 people per square mile (0.81/kmē), making it the tenth least densely populated county in North Dakota.
