Mckean County is a county located in Pennsylvania, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 45936. Its population was estimated at 43537 in July 2008, making it the 17th least populous county in Pennsylvania. The county has a total area of 984.17 miē (2548.99 kmē), of which, 981.57 square miles (2542.25 kmē) of it is land and 2.6 square miles (6.73 kmē) of it is water, it is the 12th largest by area in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.

The population density was 46.8 people per square mile (18.07/kmē), it is the ninth least populated county in terms of population density. There were 21644 housing units at an average density of 22.1 per square mile (8.53/kmē). The average household size was 2.4 people, and the average family size was 2.93 people. In the county Population was distributed with 23.7% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.7 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 43537, The racial makeup of the county was 41732 White, 1117 Black or African American, 182 American Indian, 211 Asian, 14 Native Hawaiian, and 281 from two or more races.
