Mcdonald County, Missouri is a county located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 21681. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 22731, It is the 49th most populous county in the U.S. state of Missouri. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 539.7 square miles (1397.82 square kilometre), of which, 539.51 square miles (1397.32 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.19 square miles (0.49 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 72nd largest by size in Missouri.

As of the census of 2000, there were 21681 people in the county, organized into 8113 households, and 5867 families residing in the county. The population density was 40.2 people per square mile (15.52/kmē), it is Missouri's 44th most densely populated county. There were 9287 housing units at an average density of 17.2 per square mile (6.64/kmē). The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.11. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 28.9% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.5 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 22731, The racial makeup of the county was 21075 White, 120 Black or African American, 658 American Indian, 156 Asian, 53 Native Hawaiian, and 669 from two or more races.
