Mccormick County, South Carolina is a county of the United States of South Carolina. It is home to over 9958 people (2000 census). The July 2008 population estimate is 10093, making it South Carolina's smallest county. Its area is just over 393.85 sq mi (1020.07 square kilometre), of which, 359.56 square miles (931.26 square kilometre) of it is land and 34.29 square miles (88.81 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the second smallest by area in the U.S. state of South Carolina.

The population density was 27.7 people per square mile (10.7/kmē), it is the second least populated county in terms of population density. There were 4459 housing units at an average density of 12.4 per square mile (4.79/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.39 persons, and the average family size was 2.82 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 19.5% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 87.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 86.4 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 10093, The racial makeup of the county was 51.96% White, 46.96% Black or African American, 0.08% American Indian, 0.32% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.65% from two or more races.
