Mcalester City is a city located in the Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Mcalester City is home to 17783 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 18388, It is the 23rd largest by population in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.83 sq mi (41 square kilometre), of which, 15.69 square miles (40.64 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.14 square miles (0.36 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 62nd largest by total area among Oklahoma.
