Mauston City is one of the city of Juneau County, Wisconsin, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. It is home to over 3740 people (2000 census). The July 2008 population estimate is 4413, making it Wisconsin's 156th largest. The city spans an area of 4.1 mi˛ (10.62 sq km), of which, 3.66 square miles (9.48 sq km) of it is land and 0.44 square miles (1.14 sq km) of it is water, making it the 160th largest by size in Wisconsin.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3740 people in the city, organized into 76 households, and 48 families living in the city. The population density was 1022.6 people per square mile (394.83/km˛), making its Wisconsin's 232nd most densely populated city. There were 1729 housing units at an average density of 472.4 per square mile (182.39/km˛). The average household size was 2.28 people, and the average family size was 2.89 people. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 20.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 88.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.4 males. The median age of the city's population was 38.4 years, the median age of male residents at 35.3 and the median age of female residents at 41.4. The racial makeup of the city was 96.28% White, 0.67% Black or African American, 0.35% American Indian, 1.18% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 1.04% from two or more races and 0.48% Other races.
