Maui County is a county located in Hawaii, in the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. The county has a population of 128094 as per the 2000 census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 143574, It is Hawaii's third most populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2398.74 square miles (6212.71 square kilometre), of which, 1159.2 square miles (3002.31 square kilometre) of it is land and 1239.54 square miles (3210.39 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Hawaii's second largest county by total area. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Hawaii.

As of the census of 2000, there were 128094 people, 43507 households, and 29899 families residing in the county. The population density was 110.5 people per square mile (42.66/kmē), making its Hawaii's second most densely populated county. There were 56377 housing units at an average density of 48.6 per square mile (18.76/kmē). The average household size was 2.91 people, and the average family size was 3.41 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.5% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 99.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 99.8 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 143574, The racial makeup of the county was 58482 White, 1299 Black or African American, 803 American Indian, 40849 Asian, 14961 Native Hawaiian, and 27180 from two or more races.
