Massachusetts is a one of the state, located in Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. Massachusetts had an official population of 6349097 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the state is 6497967, It is the 13th largest in terms of population. It covers total area of 10554.57 square miles (27336.21 sq km), of which, 7840.02 square miles (20305.56 sq km) of it is land and 2714.55 square miles (7030.65 sq km) of it is water, it is the seventh smallest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks 17 in the size of its inland waterways in United States.

There were 2621989 housing units at an average density of 334.4 per square mile (129.11/kmē). The average household size was 2.51 persons, and the average family size was 3.11 persons. In the state the population was distributed as follows: 23.6% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.5 males. The median age of the state's population was 36.5 years, the median age of male residents at 35.4 and the median age of female residents at 37.7. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 6349097, The racial makeup of the state was 5367286 White, 343454 Black or African American, 15015 American Indian, 238124 Asian, 2489 Native Hawaiian, 146005 from two or more races and 236724 Ohter races.
