Martin County is a one of the county from Minnesota's 87 counties, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of the county was 21802 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 20435, It is the 46th most populous county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. Its area is just over 729.56 mi˛ (1889.55 square kilometre), of which, 709.34 square miles (1837.18 square kilometre) of it is land and 20.21 square miles (52.34 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 36th largest by area in the U.S. state of Minnesota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 21802 people in the county, organized into 9067 households, and 6045 families residing in the county. The population density was 30.7 people per square mile (11.85/km˛), it would be the 39th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. There were 9800 housing units at an average density of 13.8 per square mile (5.33/km˛). The average household size was 2.35 persons, and the average family size was 2.92 persons. The population's age distribution was 24.8% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 24% from 45 to 64, and 19.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.5 males. Its population was estimated at 20435 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 20085 White, 87 Black or African American, 33 American Indian, 107 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 118 from two or more races.
