Martin County is one of the 92 county of Indiana, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. The county has a population of 10369 as per the 2000 census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 9969, It is sixth least populous county in Indiana. It is spread over 340.53 square miles (881.97 square kilometre), of which, 336.14 square miles (870.6 square kilometre ) of it is land and 4.39 square miles (11.37 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 21st smallest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana.

The population density was 30.8 people per square mile (11.89/kmē), it is Indiana's third least densely populated county. There were 4729 housing units at an average density of 14.1 per square mile (5.44/kmē). The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.2 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 9969, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 9816 White, 54 Black or African American, 13 American Indian, 14 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 69 from two or more races.
