According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 312.18 mi˛ (808.54 square kilometre), of which, 306.99 square miles (795.1 square kilometre) of it is land and 5.19 square miles (13.44 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 13th smallest in terms of geographical size.

For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.6 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 32766, The racial makeup of the county was 98.08% White, 0.66% Black or African American, 0.13% American Indian, 0.37% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.74% from two or more races.
