Marshall County is a county located in Mississippi, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. Marshall County had an official population of 34993 in 2000. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 37102, It is the 22nd largest county by population in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The county extends throughout a territory of 709.8 miē (1838.37 kmē ), of which, 706.33 square miles (1829.39 kmē) of it is land and 3.47 square miles (8.99 kmē) of it is water, it is the 19th largest by area in the U.S. state of Mississippi.


As of the census of 2000, there were 34993 people, 12163 households, and 9115 families residing in the county. The population density was 49.5 people per square mile (19.11/kmē), it is 35th most densely populated county in Mississippi. There were 13252 housing units at an average density of 18.8 per square mile (7.26/kmē). The average household size was 2.74 persons, and the average family size was 3.19 persons. In the county Age distribution was 26.6% under the age of 18, 11.8% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 22% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 102.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 103.7 females. Its population was estimated at 37102 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 50.58% White, 48.36% Black or African American, 0.18% American Indian, 0.16% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.71% from two or more races.
