Its population was estimated at 9502 in July 2008, It is 17th least populous county in Minnesota. Its area is just over 1812.79 miē (4695.1 kmē), of which, 1772.24 square miles (4590.08 kmē) of it is land and 40.55 square miles (105.02 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 11th largest by total area among Minnesota's county.
