Marshall County is one of the 120 county of Kentucky, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. It is home to over 30125 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 31189, making it Kentucky's 33rd largest county. The county extends throughout a territory of 340.32 mi˛ (881.42 square kilometre ), of which, 304.89 square miles (789.66 square kilometre) of it is land and 35.43 square miles (91.76 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 54th largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Kentucky.

The population density was 98.8 people per square mile (38.15/km˛), making it the 26th most densely populated county in Kentucky. In the county Age distribution was 21.8% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 27% from 25 to 44, 26.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.5 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 31189, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 30580 White, 223 Black or African American, 70 American Indian, 62 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 251 from two or more races.
