In July 2008, its estimated population was 88484, It is 14th most populous county in Alabama. Its area is just over 623.16 miē (1613.98 kmē), of which, 567.06 square miles (1468.68 kmē) of it is land and 56.1 square miles (145.3 kmē) of it is water, it is the 19th smallest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Alabama.
