As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 37932, making it the 38th most populous in Massachusetts. It covers total area of 22.17 square miles (57.42 kmē), of which, 21.09 square miles (54.62 kmē) of it is land and 1.08 square miles (2.8 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 26th largest by total area among Massachusetts.
