Marion County is a United States county located in the United States of Tennessee. The county has a population of 27776 as per the 2000 census data. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 28247, giving it the 52nd largest population among Tennessee's county. It is spread over 512.32 sq mi (1326.9 sq km), of which, 498.36 square miles (1290.75 sq km ) of it is land and 13.96 square miles (36.16 sq km) of it is water, making it Tennessee's 38th largest county by total area.

The population density was 55.7 people per square mile (21.51/kmē), making its Tennessee's 58th most densely populated county. There were 12140 housing units at an average density of 24.4 per square mile (9.42/kmē). The average household size was 2.49 people, and the average family size was 2.93 people. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 23.7% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 28247, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 94.06% White, 4.33% Black or African American, 0.31% American Indian, 0.44% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.86% from two or more races.
