Marion County is a county located in Oregon, in the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 284834 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 314606, It is the fifth largest in terms of population. It covers total area of 1194.13 sq mi (3092.78 square kilometre), of which, 1183.95 square miles (3066.42 square kilometre) of it is land and 10.18 square miles (26.37 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 11th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Oregon.

As of the census of 2000, there were 284834 people, 101641 households, and 70458 families residing in the county. The population density was 240.6 people per square mile (92.9/kmē), giving it the third most densely populated county among the Oregon. There were 108174 housing units at an average density of 91.4 per square mile (35.29/kmē). The average household size was 2.7 persons, and the average family size was 3.19 persons. The population's age distribution was 27.4% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.5 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 314606, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 92.43% White, 1.31% Black or African American, 1.64% American Indian, 2% Asian, 0.43% Native Hawaiian, and 2.19% from two or more races.
