Marion County is a United States county located in the United States of Missouri. The population of the county was 28289 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 28225, making it Missouri's 40th largest county. The county comprises an area of 444.05 square miles (1150.08 sq km), of which, 438.07 square miles (1134.6 sq km) of it is land and 5.97 square miles (15.46 sq km) of it is water, it is the 19th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Missouri.

The population density was 64.6 people per square mile (24.94/kmē), making it the 21st most densely populated county in Missouri. There were 12443 housing units at an average density of 28.4 per square mile (10.97/kmē). The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.98. In the county Population was distributed with 25.7% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 89.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.7 males. Its population was estimated at 28225 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 26134 White, 1460 Black or African American, 87 American Indian, 86 Asian, 22 Native Hawaiian, and 436 from two or more races.
