Marion County is a one of the county from Mississippi's 82 counties, located in Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 25595 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 25830 in July 2008, It is 38th most populous county in Mississippi. Its area is just over 548.58 sq mi (1420.82 kmē), of which, 542.34 square miles (1404.65 kmē) of it is land and 6.24 square miles (16.16 kmē) of it is water, it is the 45th largest by area in the U.S. state of Mississippi.

The population density was 47.2 people per square mile (18.22/kmē), it would be the 36th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Mississippi. In the county the population was spread out, with 27.8% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.8 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 25830, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 16965 White, 8536 Black or African American, 64 American Indian, 73 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 189 from two or more races.
