Marion County, Iowa is a county located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. Marion County had an official population of 32052 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 32571, making it the 21st most populous county in Iowa. The county extends throughout a territory of 570.53 square miles (1477.67 sq km ), of which, 554.21 square miles (1435.4 sq km) of it is land and 16.32 square miles (42.27 sq km) of it is water, it is the 55th largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in Iowa.

The population density was 57.8 people per square mile (22.32/kmē), it is Iowa's 19th most densely populated county. There were 12755 housing units at an average density of 23 per square mile (8.88/kmē). The average household size was 2.5 persons, and the average family size was 3.02 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.3% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.8 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 32571, The racial makeup of the county was 97.35% White, 0.6% Black or African American, 0.22% American Indian, 1.14% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.66% from two or more races.
