Marion County is a one of the county from Indiana's 92 counties, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 860454 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 880380, giving it the largest population among Indiana's county. It is spread over 403.04 sq mi (1043.87 kmē), of which, 396.25 square miles (1026.28 kmē ) of it is land and 6.79 square miles (17.59 kmē) of it is water, making it Indiana's 47th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 860454 people in the county, organized into 352164 households, and 213454 families living in the county. The population density was 2171.5 people per square mile (838.42/kmē), it would be the most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Indiana. There were 387183 housing units at an average density of 977.1 per square mile (377.26/kmē). The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 3.03. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.8% under the age of 18, 10% from 18 to 24, 32.9% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 106.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 111.1 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 880380, The racial makeup of the county was 619169 White, 227653 Black or African American, 3580 American Indian, 14623 Asian, 764 Native Hawaiian, and 14591 from two or more races.
